Wasatch 360 a big success

Submitted by Michael John TurnerThe first annual Wasatch 360 was held on Saturday, Sept. 7, in Heber City. The race was promoted by Summit Bike Club, a Utah nonprofit junior-mountain-bike club based in Park City, and was the organization's first attempt

To hold the race in Heber, the club first had to build a new section of trail to complete a 10.5-mile course. Summit Bike Club members spent many hours building the one-mile trail with coordination from Wasatch Trails Alliance.

A six-hour race is different from most mountain bike races. The biggest difference is the format. Racers compete in teams of two or three instead of going solo. This creates a race dynamic, which makes the event fun for all skill levels by allowing riders to go as hard as they want. There were nine different categories separated into male, female, and coed divisions. Since Summit Bike Club is a junior development organization, there was a special three-person category for high school (also for younger juniors) teams.

Those interested in the Wasatch 360 for next year or finding more info about Summit Bike Club should visit http://www.summitbikeclub.org .

Summit Bike Club would like to thank all the racers, volunteers and sponsors. Without their help and participation, the event would not have been such a success.

The following are the final top three race results:
