Park City face Sky View in 4A state title game on Friday

The Miners are truly a brotherhood, relying on one another to help their teammates go farther. After a few players missed last year’s 4A state semifinal game, this year’s group made sure those guys got the chance to experience this year’s semifinals. When injuries last week had the chance to derail the season, unsung heroes stepped up for the win. Now No. 1 Park City faces No. 2 Sky View in the 4A state title game on Friday at Rice Eccles Stadium.

Thomas Purcell takes over as head coach of the Park City boys basketball team

After three years as an assistant coach under Mike Doleac, Parkite Thomas Purcell now takes the reigns as the man chosen to lead Park City’s boys basketball program. Purcell, who has an extensive coaching background after spending the last decade involved with Utah hoops, is enforcing a ‘WE’ philosophy for this year’s Miners.

Parkite Liis Rametta finished eighth at Ironman World Championships

Parkite Liis Rametta took home eighth place in the female’s 35-39 age group at the Ironman World Championships in October. Rametta, who competed in Kona, Hawaii, says this competition was much more of a mental battle than a physical struggle compared to her previous competition in July.

Park City Pioneers host first home games in a week

The Park City Pioneers are back after a four year hiatus, beginning the new season with a doubleheader against the Jackson Hole Moose yesterday. The Pioneers are now members of the Black Diamond Hockey League, a hockey league centered around the ski towns in the Mountain West.

Bobsled World Cup relocated from Park City

The Utah Olympic Legacy Foundation announced that the upcoming Bobsled and Skeleton World Cup would be moved from Park City to Lake Placid, NY. The reason for the rescheduling is based on mechanical issues with the refrigeration pump system on the Utah Olympic Park sliding track.

Sports nonprofits angle for Live PC Give PC funds

The annual Live PC, Give PC, which returns to Park City on Friday, is a day filled with generosity as the local nonprofits fundraise to help with their programs. This year, the Park Record featured Park City Soccer Club, First Tee of Utah and the Winter Sports School.

Miners volleyball begins state title hunt with a match against East on Tuesday

Following the jump up to Class 5A, the Park City volleyball team finished the regular season as Region 8 co-champions with Salem Hills. They will now enter the state tournament as the No. 5 seed, hosting a first round matchup with No. 28 East High School on Tuesday night. First serve is set for 6 p.m.

Three Parkites have been selected to USA Nordic’s junior national team

On Tuesday, USA Nordic announced its 2019-20 Junior National Team, with 16 athletes throughout the country earning spots on the coveted team. Three Parkites; Greyson Scharffs, 18; Jillian Highfill, 15; Rachael Haerter, 14, have all made the team and will be representing team USA this upcoming season.

Transfer Hayden Goodman has thrived on and off the court as Miner

The junior transferred to the Miners after playing volleyball at Judge Memorial last season despite living in Park City. The starting middle has thrived for the Miners on and off the court thanks to the support of her teammates and her athletic ability, which has attracted the attention of numerous NCAA Division one colleges.

Park City to begin the 2019 state playoffs against No. 16 Logan

October 29, 2019

Following a bye week, Park City opens up the 4A state playoffs as the No. 1 seed with a second-round game against No. 16 Logan on Friday night at 5 p.m. at Dozier Field. The Miners, led by a group of seniors who’ve been playing together since they were kids, are undefeated on the season at 10-0 and have outscored their opponents by an average of 30 points per game.
