Restaurant Tax up for grabs
Applications are available to organizations in Summit County wishing to be considered for a 2009 Summit County Restaurant Tax grant. Completed applications will are due March 27.
The form includes a letter detailing what kinds of projects and organizations are eligible to apply, instructions for how to submit an application and a description of the criteria and the process which the advisory committee uses.
Forms will be available online at summitcounty.org. Printed forms are also available at the County Courthouse in Coalville, Kamas County Services Building, and the Summit County library located in the Sheldon Richins Summit County Building.
The Summit County Restaurant Tax grant program distributes revenues generated from a one-percent tax levied on all restaurant sales in Summit County. The program has been in existence since 1992 when first authorized by the Legislature and the Summit County Commission.
The primary purpose of this funding is to promote tourism and tourism-related public facilities. Organizations must be by a governmental entity, governmental subdivision or nonprofit organization and be designed to bring in tourists from outside Summit County to qualify for funding.
Last year the Summit County Commission awarded $1.7 million to non-profit organizations in Summit County. The committee will be chaired by Monty Coates from Snyderville. Other panel members include Oakley resident Jeanne Lehan, Kamas resident Tonja Hanson, Kamas resident Eileen Dunn, Brooke Hontz, of Park City, Jan Wilking, of Park City; Snyderville Basin resident Julie Wilson, Park City resident Judi Schweikert and Sue Hortin, of Coalville.

Should the Council approve the purchase, there is no definitive timeline on when Summit County would move into the space or what services and amenities would be located there.
