We don’t need Dakota Pacific project
As the debacle with Dakota Pacific continues, and the traffic in Kimball Junction seems to grow daily it is time to think outside the box for solutions to the traffic problem. UDOT will take years to come up with any viable solution, and if Dakota Pacific is approved, we all know the traffic problem will increase exponentially.
Why not take advantage of structures that are already in place (with some remediation) to ease the problem? Why not move the transit hub to the Ecker Hill park and ride? That lot sat empty and was rarely used until High Valley Transit made it their headquarters. I have heard no complaints that there was no available parking as a result of this which further confirms how little it was used.
It is easily accessible from I-80 and (there is already an exit for park and view) and would be more attractive to skiers and others coming into town who wish to avail themselves of public transportation. No more waiting in traffic at the lights in Kimball Junction to get to the transit hub only to find there is no available parking.
If need be. a parking garage could be built there and I am sure other ways to access this lot could be configured. A transfer station could still be maintained at the current hub location but could be much smaller.
Why not use what is available instead of trying to reinvent the wheel?
