Passes for the third Park City Song Summit are on sale now.

The event will celebrate its third year of live music performances, lab discussions and wellness activities on Aug. 15-17, and organizers have released a list of performers, artists and lab facilitators. (See lists below.)

In addition to returning artists such as Mavis Staples, Anders Osborne and Cimafunk, this year’s Song Summit will feature first-time attendees My Morning Jacket, Larkin Poe and Karla Redding.

Bringing in new artists always creates a new kind of dynamic to the music and wellness gathering, said Song Summit Founder Ben Anderson.

You get a different kind of energy and you can mix and match them with artists who have appeared the year or years before.” Ben Anderson, Park City Song Summit founder

“You get a different kind of energy and you can mix and match them with artists who have appeared the year or years before,” he said. “One of the great things is you can gain a new perspective from artists who are at different stages of their lives and career.”

This is true with the lab discussions that will cover everything from the craft of songwriting to recovery and inclusivity in the music business, Anderson said.

One of the labs Anderson looks forward to is a discussion between rock ‘n’ roll photographer Jay Blakesberg and singer-songwriter Steve Poltz.

“So you have a songwriter and photographer talking about things, and it’s going to be amazing,” Anderson said. “As Blakesberg presents his art he took over the past 30 years, there will be some great reveals going on musically as well, and I don’t want to ruin the surprise.”

Award-winning gospel and blues pioneer Mavis Staples discusses her life and career with Newport Folk Festival Executive Director Jay Sweet during a lab discussion Thursday at the 2022 Park City Song Summit. Staples is scheduled to return to the 2024 Park City Song Summit that runs Aug. 15-17.

Anderson is also looking forward to labs by Jim James and Danny Clinch and Nathaniel Rateliff and Jay Sweet, executive producer of the Newport Folk & Newport Jazz Music Foundation.

“We’ll also see what the sisters in Larkin Poe are up to. I can’t wait to hear what Jennifer Hartswick and Natalie Cressman have to say about being individual solo artists and being in a band,” he said. “They both have beautiful voices and are incredible musicians.”

Other labs include Ivan Neville that will address songwriting and sobriety, a discussion with visual artist John Bukaty and singer-songwriter Anders Osborne, and Cimafunk‘s interview with Karla Redding-Andrews, Otis Redding’s daughter and vice president and executive director of the Otis Redding Foundation, according to Anderson.

“I don’t know which way any of the labs will go, but the universe is perfect, so it will be great in any way,” he said.

Anderson and his team decided to reduce the number of labs this year to accommodate Song Summit attendees.

“We did this so the labs won’t compete with each other,” he said. “That way more people can attend all of them.”

All of the lab discussions, wellness activities and some of the live music performances are scheduled to take place at Canyons Village, Anderson said.

“We have some great partnerships,” he said. “To continue our partnerships with Stand Together Music, who has been with us since the outset, Park City Mountain and Canyons Village Management Association and the Pendry, is a wonderful and affirming feeling in this world.”

Anderson is also grateful to Junior Richard at The Cabin and Kenny Griswold at The Marquee, which will host some of the late-night concerts.

“Nobody can do this alone because it’s a tough climate to be an independent, multi-day music event,” he said. “We love our partners. We love this event.”

Having established the Park City Song Summit at the intersection of music and wellness, Anderson recognizes it is an important place to be.

“We see how many things they have in common and how many needs and benefits,” he said. “During the Song Summit, people get to hear artists talk about issues and music and then get to see them play live. That creates a different kind of connection between the artists and audience. We are so incredibly excited to bring this line up to the greater Park City audience. We made it to year three, and I think this year will be something special.”
